Become a plastic clever school
Is your school ready to reduce plastic pollution? With the free Plastic Clever schools resources, you can take action today!
The Plastic Clever Schools program motivates and guides young people towards reducing single-use plastic at school and taking action against plastic pollution. In the pilot project in Indonesia, River Cleanup and Common Seas are supporting 20 schools across Bandung and Surabaya through this program.
Are you curious about how it works? There are three main parts, each consisting of several assignments. Everything is explained in detail in the material that you can download below.
Inspire
Discover together why it is so important to take action!
Bring your entire class or school together to learn about plastic pollution.
Participate in a cleanup campaign or organize one yourself.
Share your commitment through a plastic clever pledge.
Investigate
Go investigate!
Count all of the plastic items used at school.
Determine which two types of plastic are the most problematic.
Make a plan to reduce or eliminate those two.
Act
Time for action!
Put your plan into practice with a campaign at school.
Take photos and videos of your process and show the change you've made.
Celebrate your success.
10 schools in Bandung setting an example
Students in our action zone in Bandung are among the first in the world to test the global Plastic Clever Schools resources.
This pilot program started in September 2025 with 10 schools. Our local education coordinator, Lana, has built a personal connection with hundreds of students so far. All together, they are reducing plastic waste in and around their school. Make sure to take a look at the video showing these incredible students in action!
