A citizen movement for a cleaner Douala 5
From August 1 to September 20, River Cleanup Cameroon invites all residents and visitors of Douala 5 to join the #TrashChasseChallenge — a fun and engaging campaign to fight illegal dumping and protect our environment!
This initiative encourages the community to take action against mismanaged plastic waste, all while having fun and getting the chance to win eco-friendly prizes.
What’s the aim?
The challenge is to identify, report, and highlight areas contaminated by plastic waste across Douala 5 — in the streets, around markets, near rivers, or in drains.
How to take part?
Participation is simple and open to everyone in the Douala 5 council:
Step 1
Spot an area of at least 15 m² containing uncollected waste (illegal dumping, rubbish heaps, etc.).
Step 2
Take a clear photo of the site, with the GPS coordinates visible. 👉 You can use an app like GPS Map Camera (available on the Play Store and Apple Store), which automatically adds the location, date, and time to the photo. This way, you don’t need to provide the location separately (place name or GPS coordinates) — everything is directly visible on the image.
