The River Volta has been for decades a source of food and income for river-bound communities within the Volta Belt area. The river has also been a significant connection to neighboring villages as well as a source of food and an integral part of their culture, ritual, and lifestyle.
The influx of plastic waste in the river is becoming a more increasing concern for the people of Kotoso and this clean-up is designed to travel 3 hours to the River belt clean up the river and set up a permanent collection skip and system for the future recovery.
