Mtoni Estuary Beach Cleanup
Our event at the Mtoni Estuary aims to engage local fishers, both residents and those who fish the waters, in combating plastic pollution. This area, which flows into the Indian Ocean, has been significantly affected by human activity. We will address this through a series of activities that includes direct beach cleanup to remove existing waste, and a waste and brand audit of the collected materials to identify the sources of the pollution. Additionally, we will provide capacity-building sessions to teach local groups how to conduct their own cleanups. We will also educate them on how to take advantage of the plastic waste they collect, turning a problem into an opportunity. Through these activities, we hope to foster greater community involvement and significantly reduce the amount of waste entering our oceans.
