During the onset of typhoons, it is anticipated that large amounts of waste such as plastics, debris, and other pollutants will be carried to our water systems and will eventually flow to the rivers and oceans. This environmental issue poses a serious threat to the marine life, biodiversity and the overall health and our ecosystems.

Last July 25, 2025, La Union experienced the wrathof Super Typhoon Emong. Among the affected municipalities under the Ridge to Reef (R2R) Project were the municipalities of  Bauang, Bacnotan, San Gabriel, and San Juan. These municipalities not only faced damage to infrastructure and livelihoods but also witnessed environmental degradation, especially the coastline.

In response, and line with our commitment to environmental protection and sustainability, the CCFPI R2R team will spearhead a coastal clean-up drive. This will be conducted in collaboration with the Local Government Units (LGUs), TWG members, and other volunteers. The clean-up aims to remove debris and restore the natural beauty and ecological balance of the affected coastal areas.

Beyond cleaning up, this effort also serves as a call to action raising awareness on the importance of proper waste disposal, disaster preparedness, and environmental stewardship. Together, we can make a significant impact in protecting our oceans and ensuring a healthier future for generations to come.
